Hello! My name is Evie Yapelli, and I am the owner and operator of Show Pigeon Tattoo in Orange, California. In addition to my work as a tattooer, I use my space as a studio to paint and design, often in collaboration with other visual artists.
Originally from Illinois, I began my career in Chicago and later relocated to Orange County. My work is rooted in the Traditional American tattoo style with the added influences of vintage illustration and blackwork tattooing. I'm best known for my red and black palette, though at times I also work in all black or in black, red, and gold.
My paintings, made in india ink and watercolor with the traditional spit shading technique, have been exhibited throughout the US. I've been published in several art compilations as well as in Pigeon the Kewp Doll, a color-your-own paper doll book including fine art prints that I released in 2016. I enjoy working with other artists and have collaborated on tattoos, fine art, fashion, and designer toys, including ongoing partnerships with Miss Ladybug and Bitter Squeaks.
As an illustrator, I was proud to create images for We Testify, a campaign from the National Network of Abortion Funds that seeks to enrich the conversation around abortion for cultural and policy change. In addition to representing the project and organization online and on fundraising materials, my illustrations were used at the Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt Supreme Court rally to protect abortion access, on signs that were later named by Women's Health Magazine to be among the best protest signs at the rally. I also had the honor of being an official summit tattooer for the National Network of Abortion Funds' 2017 Organizing Summit.
I regularly support local organizations and do community outreach through tattoo-based fundraising, art donation, volunteering, and event hosting. In my home life, I am proud to be loved by a wonderful husband and two fuzzy cats.
In late 2016, I released Pigeon the Kewp Doll, a color-your-own paper doll book including fine art prints. My work has also appeared in several Out of Step Books' collections, including Slithers and Scales, Enchanted, Pandaemonium, Meows and Roars, Feathers of Inspiration, Excavate, Black and White Vol. 1, and ABC: Tattoo Artists Illustrate the Alphabet.
