ABOUT ME:

My name is Evie Yapelli. I am the owner and operator of Show Pigeon Tattoo, a private, appointment only studio in Orange, California,  just a few minutes West of the historic Orange Circle.

Originally from Illinois, I began my tattoo career in Chicago and then later relocated to Orange County. My work is rooted in the Traditional American tattoo style with the added influences of vintage illustration and blackwork tattooing. Best known for depicting charming subject matter (including kewpies, early Disney characters, and Victorian imagery), my tattoos are rendered in either all black or black with red or gold, giving each piece an antique look.

My paintings, made in india ink and watercolor with the traditional spit shading technique, have been exhibited both locally and nationally. I've been published in various art compilations and in Pigeon the Kewp Doll, a color-your-own paper doll book including fine art prints that I released in 2016. I enjoy working with other artists and have collaborated on tattoos, fine art, and fashion, including ongoing partnerships with Southern California designers Miss Ladybug and Vintage Inspired by Jackie

As an illustrator, I was proud to create images for We Testify, a campaign from the National Network of Abortion Funds that seeks to enrich the conversation around abortion for cultural and policy change. In addition to representing the project and organization online and on fundraising materials, my illustrations were used at the Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt Supreme Court rally to protect abortion access, on signs that were later named by Women's Health Magazine to be among the best protest signs at the rally.

PUBLICATIONS:

In late 2016, I released Pigeon the Kewp Doll, a color-your-own paper doll book including fine art prints. Additionally, my work has appeared in several Out of Step Books' collections, including Slithers and Scales, Enchanted, Pandaemonium, Meows and RoarsFeathers of Inspiration, Excavate, and Black and White Vol. 1. I was also selected to contribute to their children's book, ABC: Tattoo Artists Illustrate the Alphabet.
